What is an HPI check?
A hire purchase information (HPI) check, also known as a hire purchase investigation, is an in-depth look into the vehicle history.
HPI checks will highlight whether the car has any outstanding finance, if it has previously been stolen, written off by insurance companies, or if it has been involved in any accidents as well as the number of previous owners it has had and any potential mileage discrepancies.
Do I need an HPI check?
When buying used cars, especially from private sellers, it can be a good idea to get an HPI check and to carry out other vehicle history checks. History checks such as these will reduce the likelihood of you falling for common car scams.
