Volkswagen has announced a new more affordable trim level for its electric ID.5.

Only recently launched, the ID.5 is essentially the coupe-styled version of the popular ID.4 SUV, though was previously only available in high-spec trim levels. However, Volkswagen has now introduced a new ‘Style’ version, helping to expand the range and bring this EV’s price down.

Priced from £49,735, it’s more than £3,000 cheaper than the Tech model above it, but it still gets plenty of standard equipment, including 19-inch alloy wheels, a 12-inch touchscreen and panoramic glass roof.

All versions of the ID.5 come with a large 77kWh battery, which enables up to 316 miles of range, while 135kW rapid charging capability means the battery can be charged to 80 per cent capacity in as little as 29 minutes. There are three power options available too – 172bhp, 201bhp and the top-spec all-wheel-drive 295bhp GTX model.

Francesca McGuinn, ID. family product marketing manager at Volkswagen UK, said: “The ID.5 is packed with every convenience, innovation and luxury that a customer might need, with only selected items on the optional extras list.

“That’s why it’s so exciting that the ID.5 Style has arrived, bringing with it a lower entry price for the model, but the same blend of sustainability, quality and head-turning style that mark out ID. models from their competitors.”

The Volkswagen ID.5 uses the same bespoke electric car platform as a range of models from the Volkswagen Group, including the Audi Q4 e-tron, Skoda Enyaq iV and Cupra Born.
