With beaches typically found in the most remote locations, it can pose a bit of a challenge for electric car drivers.

However, with EV charging infrastructure improving, there are now plenty of beaches dotted around the UK that are ideally placed for those with electric cars, with Citroen now compiling the top 10 locations for those looking to plug in their cars.

The French manufacturer looked at how many major cities were accessible within the 219-mile (claimed) range of the Citroen e-C4, before looking at the total number of public chargers within two miles of the highest-rated beaches on TripAdvisor.

Ranked first place was Roker and Seaburn beaches in Tyne and Wear, which were accessible from eight major cities within the claimed range, while 13 chargers could be found closeby.

In second place was Brighton beach, handily located 53 miles from London, and with an impressive 123 public chargers to be found within two miles. In third position was Bournemouth Beach, which is accessible from six major cities within the e-C4’s range, while it also has 11 chargers nearby, including five of the handier rapid charging units that can top up the car’s batteries quicker.

Eurig Druce, Citroen UK managing director, said: “The summer getaways to the beaches are now underway, and our research shows some of England’s best seaside locations can easily be reached on a single charge using electric cars like Citroen e-C4.

“Our research also shows how many of the best beaches in the country are close to public charging stations, making the journey even easier in an electric vehicle.”

Citroen is quickly expanding its line-up of plug-in models, with hybrid versions of the C5 Aircross and C5X already on the market. In terms of pure-EVs, there is the e-C4, e-Berlingo and e-SpaceTourer MPVs.
