Ford has opened the order books for its Fiesta Actve – the quirky plastic-clad crossover version of its best-selling hatchback.

Prices start from £17,790 for the Active, which also benefits from several driving modes to aid with traction, too. Drivers have the choice of Eco, Slippery and Normal driving modes to help with driving in varying conditions.

Two engines are available – a 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine, available in four tunes ranging from 84bhp to 123bhp, and an 84bhp 1.5-litre diesel engine.

There’s the option of three trim levels – Active 1, Active B&O Play and Active X – costing from £17,790, £19,190 and £20,290 respectively.

All cars come with 17-inch alloy wheels, ‘rough-road’ suspension, roof rails and front fog lights as well aforementioned drive modes.

On the inside, it uses Ford’s latest Sync 3 infotainment system that includes voice recognition and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

It is also big on the safety front, too, as you get lane-keep assist, Ford’s renowned QuickClear heated windscreen and hill start assist.

The B&O Play adds a black roof, electric and heated door mirrors and a B&O sound system. Creature comforts include cruise control, an auto-dimming rear view mirrors and a centre console-mounted armrest.

Top-of the-range Active X adds half-leather seats, heated front seats and puddle lights. Furthermore, it comes with satellite navigation, keyless entry and start and a rear-view parking camera with sensors.

The Fiesta Active joins the recently unveiled Ford Ka+ Active in the superminis-on-stilts class.
