The CEO of Aston Martin has announced that its upcoming DB11 model will mark the start of the British brand’s renewal.
The DB11, which will be unveiled at March’s Geneva Motor show, is to replace the current DB9, which was introduced 13 years ago.
The DB10 badge has been missed in the model line-up because an Aston of that name was built exclusively for the James Bond epic, Spectre.
CEO Andy Palmer said that the luxury marque took into account previous criticisms when designing the grand tourer, including the grumble that the current range is too samey.
The DB11 will go on sale globally in the third quarter, and while specifications have not yet been revealed, it is expected to receive a new V-12 twin-turbocharged 5.2-litre engine, according to a video posted online by Aston Martin in January. A turbocharged V8 from Mercedes-Benz is also expected to be available to power the car.
Electrical components including infotainment and safety equipment are also expected to be provided by the German carmaker across Aston Martin’s updated range, which also includes replacements for the entry-level Vantage and high-performance Vanquish, which will hit the market before 2018.
Also shared between the three upcoming models will be an all-new aluminium bonded platform.
The three models will be followed by an SUV based on last year’s DBX concept and a Lagonda topline sedan to compete with the likes of Bentley and Rolls-Royce models. Aston Martin is also reportedly developing electric versions of these two models.
