When it comes to dream cars, those from British marques are the most covetable, according to research by airport competition firm Best of the Best.

The company, which regularly gives away exotic supercars to lucky winners, surveyed over 55,000 car fans to find out which vehicles we’d really like to have on our driveways.

In its ranking of the 140 most popular cars, the UK is heavily represented, with the top four spots all taken up by British brands.

Releasing a range of desirable models in 2013, it is no surprise to see Land Rover dominating the top ten, with the Range Rover Sport, Range Rover Evoque and Range Rover TDV6 taking 1st, 3rd and 4th respectively.

James Bond’s Skyfall saw the popularity of Aston Martins rise, with the baby of the Gaydon marque’s range, the Vantage, taking 2nd place.

Given that it was amongst the best looking cars of 2013, the Jaguar F-Type concludes the British contingent at the top of the tree, taking sixth place.

Models from established European sports car brands also featured highly, with Porsche having three models in the top 20. Ferrari however, is seemingly not as desirable in the eyes of petrol-heads as it once was, with its 458 Italia model making it into just 21st place.

The least popular car on the list was the BMW Alpina D5 Saloon.

William Hindmarch, of Best of the Best, said: “It is great to see how popular British motors are, particularly when they are in direct competition with your ordinary motoring fan who dreams of winning his ultimate car. There is no better test of their popularity and proof that the ones we would assume are top of the list are nowhere near.

“Our survey shows that drivers want performance and of course a good-looking car but it is the prestige of a British badge which is winning time after time.

“One of the really exciting things about this survey is that more than 80 nationalities took part, which means the British brand really is valued across the globe.”
