Footballers are famed for having exotic cars, but which models do players opt for when they have their choice of the market? Luxury car broker Oracle Finance has revealed the top 10 cars most likely to be seen in a Premiership club car park, ahead of the start of the new season this weekend – and it seems like players look for comfort over speed.

Topping the list of cars most likely to be bought by footballers is the iconic Range Rover, with 28 players receiving funding for one of these machines. This luxurious car is a capable cruiser on Tarmac, but equally talented off-road. It’s by no means the only 4×4 in the chart though.

Coming in third place, a total of 24 players opted for a Range Rover Sport, while closely following are the Audi Q7 with 21 purchases and the BMW X5 with 18. Porsche Cayennes were financed through Oracle for 16 further players. Trumping all of these however, is the luxurious Bentley Continental GT which is only just beaten by the Range Rover, with 26 footballers receiving funding for one.

Oracle Finance managing director Peter Brook, said: “We looked back at our records over the last five years to come up with this list and weren’t surprised the Range Rover was top.

It’s clear SUVs are a favourite with footballers. Our football clients like their cars to be luxurious with high-up driving positions, which is why they prefer 4x4s to out-and-out supercars.

“Bentley was extremely close to taking the number one spot in our Premiership poll with the GT, but it’s clear SUVs are a favourite with footballers. Our football clients like their cars to be luxurious with high-up driving positions, which is why they prefer 4x4s to out-and-out supercars. Few cars offer all that like a full-fat Range Rover.”

Supercars do make a showing in the chart though, with the Lamborghini Gallardo coming seventh with 13 players receiving funding for one. Eight Ferrari 458 Italias were also bought while four players went for a Maserati Gran Turismo and three for the Aston Martin DB9.

Brook added: “We work with some of the biggest names in the footballing world and have helped hundreds of players, managers and agents fund their dream cars over the years.”

A large number of players fund their cars through finance, as it can be the most tax-efficient way of purchasing a supercar, which gives Oracle Finance a unique insight into the machines super-rich celebs are driving.
