During Halloween, we’re allowed to let our minds imagine a spookier, more zombie-ridden time. With the earth overrun by the departed, the humble few humans left will require a rugged way of getting around – this is no place for some run-of-the-mill hatchback.

But which car available today would be the ideal one to help you survive a zombie apocalypse? We’ve picked out some of the cars that you should grab the keys to should the undead take over the planet.

Land Rover Defender

With a name like Defender, this is one car which comes close to entering itself into this list. With big, blocky looks and a high ride height, this is an off-roader which will be able to keep you out of harm’s way from the undead hordes.

Plus, it’s available with a load of go-anywhere accessories such as a snorkel and clever side ‘pods’ which provide additional storage should you need it.

Mercedes-Benz G-Class

In much the same vein as the Defender, the G-Class looks almost perfectly suited to dealing with all that the apocalypse could throw at you. It’s big, square and boxy, and thanks to a 4.0-litre turbocharged V8 engine it’ll be able to outpace everything.

It’s packed with off-road tech too, while its luxurious interior should – for a moment at least – allow you to forget about the peril that the earth is in. It’s been built with strength in mind, too, with solid panels and tough suspension ensuring that it’ll deal with anything that is thrown its way.

Volkswagen Amarok

Volkswagen’s Amarok is one tough pick-up, capable of travelling over the very roughest of terrains. It shouldn’t have any issues with dealing with zombies, therefore, while its spacious load area is more than large enough to store everything you need to survive. It can be fitted with all manner of accessories, including spot lamps and additional protective cladding – worthy additions given these zombie-riddled times.

It’s powered by a powerful yet reliable 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 engine, too, which should keep you moving no matter what the apocalypse throws at you.

Brabus Rocket 900

Would you just look at it? With looks to scare off even the most human-hungry zombie, the Brabus Rocket 900 is a car which really doesn’t want to be messed with. It produces a frankly earth-ending 888bhp and can hit 205mph – so if you need to make a quick getaway, this is the car for the job.

There might only be 10 in existence, but if you’d got the chance, this could be one of the ideal cars for the job of surviving the end of days. After all, if a zombie can’t even catch you, then there’s nothing to worry about, right?

Suzuki Jimny

Who said dinky can’t be tough? Not Suzuki, who made its second-generation Jimny as rugged and dependable as cars three times its size. Though its cabin is somewhat snug, this could be a car which would make light work of the zombie crowds surrounding you.

With plenty of off-road tech on board, it shouldn’t be fooled by difficult conditions, either. Plus, it’s got simple mechanicals which won’t take much to repair should a mechanical issue strike.

Isuzu D-Max XTR

The D-Max XTR might be a conventional pickup that you can buy now, but it already looks like it’s been designed for the end of the world. It’s got tough suspension, huge mud-plugging tyres and even a light bar, which can project a huge beam of light onto the road ahead – scaring away anything which comes in front of you.

The D-Max is also notoriously reliable, which should help when you need to keep going without any mechanical maladies. Plus, the XTR’s extreme styling should be more than enough to ward off any zombies lurking nearby.
