This is Ford’s newest Mondeo. The car, which will reach UK showrooms in October, is a facelift inside and out of the current model rather than an all-new version.

The revised car (pictured) has a new grille, bonnet and bumpers, while the rear end is restyled. Key among the changes are new daytime running lights ahead of new regulations which will require all new cars to feature them. Inside, the centre console is new and the doors are revised to include new, flush-fit door releases. Overhead, the car now has ambient interior lighting and there are also new seat fabrics and trims.

This latest Mondeo will also make available Ford’s new 238bhp 2.0 turbocharged petrol engine. This motor, says Ford, uses up to 20% less fuel than a typical 2.0-litre unit. It will sit in the range alongside a 201bhp version of this engine which powers the latest versions of the S-Max and the Galaxy.

New diesels come to the line-up, too, including a 198bhp 2.2 turbodiesel alongside 2.0 units offering variously 114bhp, 138bhp and 161bhp.

Finally, the new car brings a host of safety features including lane departure warning, driver alert and auto high beam. Full prices and model specifications will be confirmed near the on-sale date.
