Dundee dentist Sam Rollings, 26, is our champion amateur video car reviewer, picked by a motors.co.uk panel of judges.
Sam Rollings, a 26-years-old dentist from Dundee, has been chosen as motors.co.uk Real Reviewer of the Year. Sam first came to the notice of motors.co.uk judges when we began our search for top amateur car reviewers a year ago.
He sent in a witty and captivating video review of his modern classic car, a 1980s Ford Escort XR3i. His work earned him a place among our car review finalists.
Each was given a video camera as a prize, along with a teach-in from the UK’s best-known woman motoring journalist, Vicki Butler-Henderson, held at the Silverstone race track.
Sam, along with his half-dozen fellow finalists, also had a chance to hone their driving skills by lapping the circuit there in a race-prepared Ferrari. He also spent part of the day filming reviews of a variety of cars – from a Skoda Roomster to a Subaru Impreza WRX.
As the year progressed, Sam got the chance to drive a Lamborghini supercar and also an Ariel Atom – one of the fastest accelerating road-legal cars there is. And, to bring matters back to earth, he also test-drove a Volkswagen Beetle and a fuel-sipping Peugeot 308 diesel, among others.
Sam’s work also attracted widespread media publicity. His story appeared in local newspapers and he was also interviewed by Radio York.
As winner, Sam receives an expenses-paid trip to the Geneva Motor Show next month for himself plus a guest. Along with other finalists Louise A’Barrow, Michelle Brown (pictured, second from right), Donna Fraher (fourth from right), Terrie Hornsey, Derek Marsh (third from right) and Stuart Tidman (far right), he also received a track day experience voucher, a motoring coffee table book and a bottle of bubbly.
Motors.co.uk’s judges picked Sam from a talented field for his consistently apt, entertaining and insightful video reviews. ‘I’m delighted to have been chosen’ said Sam, ‘and I want to thank motors.co.uk for the fantastic opportunity I’ve been given. It’s been so great to drive such a wide variety of cars over the year.’
