Skoda’s latest and smallest SUV, the Kamiq, has commenced production in its main plant, based in Mladá Boleslav, Czech Republic.

The plant has received a £90 million investment to accommodate the Kamiq production line, which is expected to complete 400 cars per day.

Dr Michael Oeljeklaus, Skoda board member for production and logistics, said: “For us, the start of production for a new Skoda model is always a special time.

“Over the past few months, we have made all of the provisions in production and logistics to successfully launch the Kamiq in the city SUV segment. We are convinced that – in typical Skoda style – the Kamiq too will impress our customers with its excellent quality and many practical features.”

The Kamiq will follow on from its sister vehicles from Skoda – Kodiaq and Karoq – as well as its similarly-sized Volkswagen Group stablemates, the VW T-Cross and Seat Arona.

The Kamiq is set to go on sale later this year, with an estimated starting price of around £16,000.
