Nissan has stepped up to supply a fleet of electric cars and vans as support vehicles for the upcoming London Marathon.

It is the second year the Japanese firm has acted as automotive sponsor for one of the UK’s elite running events, with Nissan supplying both examples of its electric Leaf hatchback and e-NV200 van and passenger models.

Nissan says that as well as delivering a more sustainable racing event, the brand’s vehicles will also have a strong focus on diversity and inclusion, with the firm working with charities across the UK to support disabled and LGBTQ+ to engage more in the sport.

The Leaf and e-NV200 models will both act as time-keeping vehicles for the event, as well as helping to drum up support in the crowd for the runners. A ‘Nissan LGBTQ+ Cheerzone’ will also be powered exclusively by a Leaf.

Nic Thomas, marketing director of Nissan Motor (GB) Ltd, said: “Nissan is very proud to be supporting one of the world’s most prestigious running events. By focusing on running – an already inclusive sport – Nissan hopes to champion under-represented communities and bring its vision of zero inequality to life, while supporting the sustainability of the events through zero emission support vehicles.”

The London Marathon takes place on Sunday October 3.
