Mazda has released a picture tease of its all-new 3 as the model prepares to make its debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

The image shows the conventional five-door hatchback 3 as well as the Fastback saloon – both variants are offered in the current Mazda3 range. The new models appear to be curvier than the cars they replace, although little is given away.

The Japanese manufacturer has confirmed that the 3 will make its debut at the Los Angeles show at a press day on November 28, with the event open to the public from November 30 to December 9.

Mazda says the model will “mark a whole new generation of Mazda cars” with styling that will build on the already-established Kodo design philosophy, which has been seen on the brand’s cars for the past few years and was first revealed on the CX-5 crossover.

The new Mazda3 is said to have raised performance attributes, while it will also show off the next generation of the Skyactiv Vehicle Architecture – the fancy name for Mazda’s platforms. Efficient Skyactiv petrol and diesel engines will likely feature, while the 3 aims to continue Mazda’s mantra of offering driving enjoyment without a premium price tag.

The 3 name was first used for the hatchback in 2003, with the last-generation car first hitting showrooms in 2014. While the saloon-style Fastback model has been offered in the past, it’s been a slow seller in the UK, so it’s not known yet if we’ll receive this model.

Other important cars set to be revealed at the show include the new Porsche 911 and Mercedes-Benz’s poshest SUV – the Mercedes-Maybach GLS.

Sales of the new Mazda3 are expected to start from the middle of 2019, but if you can’t wait that long, please click here to view hundreds of used models for sale.
