Motorists will soon be able to get a little bit closer to Hollywood, after acclaimed actor Morgan Freeman announced his intention to voice Google’s GPS navigation app, Waze.
The star is the latest in a growing list of high-profile celebrities to add their voices to the internet giant’s app in the US, which aims to make getting from A to B just that little bit more fun.
Freeman’s sonorous tones are instantly recognisable, due to his narration of award winning blockbusters, including The Shawshank Redemption and Million Dollar Baby.
Unfortunately, the 78-year-old’s voice will not be a permanent option on the app, as it is reportedly just a promotional tie-in for his new film – London Has Fallen – in which he plays the US Vice President.
However, as film advertising goes, it’s undoubtedly different, as Freeman’s voice directs and addresses the driver as if they are the President themselves.
Other famous voices to have featured on the app in the past include Arnold Schwarzenegger, Stephen Colbert, Kevin Hart and even C-3PO. The app is often used by film companies as a promotional tool.
A statement released by the company said: “Waze is prepared to make you the President. Starting Monday, February 22, and for a limited time in the United States, Morgan Freeman (in character as Vice President Trumbull from London Has Fallen) will be the voice of Waze. Buckle up, listen closely and enjoy the (power) trip.”
