The Mazda MX-5 range has been updated for 2020 to include a new trim level and better equipment.

New for this year is GT Sport Tech model variant. Identifiable by its 17-inch BBS alloy wheels and burgundy Nappa leather seats, this version of the MX-5 now tops the range.

GT Sport Tech is available with both the soft-top and ‘RF’ hard-top offerings, but only comes with the more powerful, 181bhp 2.0-litre engine, as oppose to the 1.5-litre powerplant. Buyers wanting to opt for that motor will have to spec either the SE-L or Sport trim.

It’s also worth noting that, in 2018, Mazda made some major mechanical revisions to the car, adding 23bhp to the 2.0-litre engine total power output to bring it to that 181bhp figure mentioned before.

For 2020, the MX-5 also benefits from increased safety equipment offered from Sport grade onwards. Kit such as front and rear Smart City Brake Support (essentially automatic emergency braking), lane departure warning and traffic sign recognition now come as standard.

Furthermore, adaptive LED headlights, blind spot monitoring and a reversing camera can be had at no extra cost on Sport Tech and GT Sport Tech models.

The 2020 Mazda MX-5 is priced from £23,795 – the new GT Sport Tech version comes in at £25,895. Order books for the car are now open, with first deliveries expected in February.
