Lotus has unveiled another special edition of its Exige – the Exige Cup 430

The new special edition has a 3.5-litre supercharged V6 that has been tuned to produce 424bhp and 440Nm, yet weighs just 1,059 kg, meaning it can accelerate from 0-60mph in just 3.2 seconds and onto a maximum speed of 180mph.

It has 49bhp more than Lotus’ last special edition Exige – the Exige Cup 380 – with a significant increase in downforce over previous cars, too. Its lightweight design and construction has also made it 12kg lighter than the 380. When coupled with its increase in power, it seems valid that Lotus describes the 430 as its “most extreme Exige ever conceived”.

The new edition has a clear focus on track performance, and is said to be the quickest car to go around the Norfolk-based firm’s Hethel test track, taking 1 minute 24.8 seconds – 1.2 seconds faster than the road-going version of the Lotus 3-Eleven.

Jean-Marc Gales, CEO of Group Lotus plc, said: “This is the car that we always wanted to build, and I am sure that all Lotus enthusiasts will be delighted with the end product.

“This car has no rivals – inside or outside its price bracket – and it’s no exaggeration when we say that nothing can keep up with this Exige on the road or track. It will go down a ground-breaking car in the history of Lotus.”

The Exige Cup 430 is available to order now, costing from £99,800.
