Kia has confirmed that its electric EV9 will go into production in Europe in 2023.

Revealed initially as the Concept EV9, the new model will arrive with a striking look and a whole host of interior features and technology. Kia is hoping that the EV9 will ‘build on the success of the acclaimed EV6’ that has already proved popular here in the UK.

It’s got some of Kia’s latest technology and sits atop the firm’s Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) which allows it to offer more interior space and better flexibility than a conventional car of its size. Inside, there’s a huge 27-inch widescreen infotainment setup that houses all of the car’s main media and navigation functions.

The exterior of the car showcases Kia’s latest interpretation of the ‘Tiger Nose’ styling, with a front grille that houses a ‘star cloud’ pattern that is only visible when the car is activated. There are also 22-inch wheels on all four corners. In addition, daytime running lights that take inspiration from the stars – and they display a special ‘welcome light’ for the driver when activated as well.

Atop the EV9 sit retractable roof rails which close inward when not in use, helping to keep the car as streamlined as possible in the process. This aerodynamic efficiency is boosted further by the use of a camera monitoring system that replaces the conventional wing mirrors.

Passengers will also be able to get a great view of the area above them courtesy of the ‘sky’ panoramic roof, too.
