Hyundai’s IONIQ 5 has become the first electric car to take top honours at Company Car Today’s annual awards.

It’s the latest award for the new EV, including winning Auto Express’ Car of the Year, along with being shortlisted for the upcoming European Car of the Year.

Company Car Today’s awards, known as the ‘CCT100’, recognises the top 100 cars that aim to cover ‘every business car need’. Alongside overall Car of the Year, the IONIQ 5 also won the Premium EV of the Year title.

Company Car Today Editor Paul Barker, said: “The IONIQ 5 has shown what an excellent path Hyundai is on, and the exciting thing is that it’s only the beginning of the brand’s electric plans.

“The acceleration in high-quality electric vehicles coming to market gives drivers even more reason to make the switch, and the IONIQ is a great example of how good the latest EVs are in terms of looks, space, practicality, driving experience and all-round quality.”

The IONIQ 5 helps to kickstart a new wave of bespoke EVs from Hyundai, with its bespoke electric car platform allowing for an impressive amount of interior space, along with ultra-rapid 350kW charging capability – helping to speed up journeys.

Away from the Hyundai IONIQ 5, other electric car winners included the Fiat 500e being ranked the best small EV, while Volkswagen’s ID.4 SUV was named Family EV of the Year.

Other notable winners elsewhere included the Peugeot 5008 being crowned SUV of the Year, with the Peugeot 208 being named as the best supermini and the BMW 5 Series as the best executive car.
