A replica model of the KITT Knight Rider car, formerly owned by David Hasselhoff, is to be sold at auction alongside a number of other items from the star’s long-running television career.
The car is not one of the four official models used during the filming of the Knight Rider TV series, but rather a replica which was built by ardent fan Jennifer Catano, who presented it to Hasselhoff as a gift.
Clearly a skilled spanner wielder, Catano took a 1986 Pontiac Firebird and added the iconic scissor doors, red bonnet strobe light and a fully refitted dash featuring KITT's futuristic looking digital displays.
The replica KITT car is expected to raise up to £30,000
With a 5.0-litre V8 engine under the bonnet, this faithful fake has also got the grunt to match its on-screen sibling.
In a nod to the show’s 1980s fanbase, Catano has even a fitted a device reminiscent of old Raleigh Wolf Cub children’s bikes, that emits a choice of over 4,000 sound effects and dialog snippets from the show at the push of a button.
Offered by Julien’s Auctions in Beverley Hills, the KITT car is expected to raise between £18,000 and £30,000 when it goes under the hammer on April 11. Also being sold is Hasselhoff’s original Baywatch jacket, featuring his signature, and a Harley Davidson motorcycle.
The sale coincides with the launch of a new American TV show called ‘Celebrity Home Raiders’, in which stars, including Hasselhoff, open up their houses to the cameras for an exclusive look at their lifestyles and unique collectable possessions.
