Audi has announced that its off-road inspired supermini, the A1 Citycarver, is now on sale, with prices starting from £22,040.

For the starting price, buyers will be getting a turbocharged 1.0-litre version (badged as the 30 TFSI) equipped with a six-speed manual gearbox. A seven-speed automatic can be opted for instead, priced from £23,580.

With 114bhp and 200Nm of torque, it’s pretty nippy for an entry level variant – the model can go from 0-60mph in 9.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 123mph. Fuel economy, when the motor is paired with the manual transmission as oppose to the slightly less economical auto, is a claimed 46.3mpg, with CO2 emissions of 117g/km.

Sitting above the 30 TFSI is the 1.5-litre 35 TSFI petrol – a version which hasn’t had its pricing confirmed yet but will join the range shortly after launch.

In this configuration, the A1 Citycarver gets 148bhp and 250Nm of torque. This aids a 0-60mph time of 8.0 seconds and a top speed of 136mph. Economy figures for this motor have not yet been revealed.

With regards to standard kit, the model gets equipment such as 17-inch alloy wheels, a drive mode selector, increased ride height and LED lights at the front and rear. In the cabin, owners are treated to sports seats, a leather steering wheel, air conditioning, aluminium trim finishes and an 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

The Citycarver sits above standard A1s and S lines price-wise, due to its rugged looks.

Order books for the A1 Citycarver are now open, with first deliveries are set to begin in November.
