Maintaining oil levels is one of the easiest ways to prolong the life of your car’s engine. Making sure the oil is topped up can help keep running costs down. However, if left unchecked, oil levels not reaching the minimum can lead to damage. Our handy how-to guide explains exactly what to do in just seven simple steps. Try it out today for peace of mind.
1. Park your car on a level surface and wait for the engine to cool down.
2. Locate the dipstick. This is usually yellow or orange in colour. There might also be an oil can icon on a lid next to it.
3. Pull the dipstick out and wipe thoroughly with an old rag or something you don’t mind throwing away.
4. Put the dipstick back into the oil tank and remove again.
5. To check how much is in the tank look at how far up the gauge the oil markings come. There should be a clear minimum and maximum marked on.

7. Replace dipstick and close the bonnet.
