Vehicle valuation experts HPI have released a list of the five best sub-£10k used electric vehicles.
The new electric car market is booming, with May seeing an 18.7 per cent increase in the number of new pure electric vehicles registered, according to the SMMT.
And, with electric vehicles gradually entering the used market, HPI has looked at the best sub-10k options for used buyers, with statistics based on the target retail value of 15 plate models.
Unsurprisingly, the entry-level Visa spec Nissan Leaf makes an appearance at the top end of the list, with a target retail value of £9,795. With a published all-electric range of 124 miles, and all the interior space and functionality of an internal combustion engine car, the Leaf is perhaps the most obvious choice for second-hand electric car buyers.
With a similar range to the Nissan Leaf (130 miles), the Renault Zoe is seen as an alternative option. A battery-leased vehicle can be found for as little as £7,850 -the 100% owned vehicles experience minimal depreciation and tend to be rare.
The Citroen C Zero, Mitsubishi I-MIEV and Peugeot ION, the three sibling cars only really differentiated by their badges, offer value for money and good potential as an economical second car choice. With the manufacturers stating they can do around 92 miles on a charge they are ideal for driving in an around town and performing everyday errands.
The C Zero is the most expensive of the three on a 15 plate, with its target retail price listed as £7,525. The ION will set you back just £7,095, with the I-MIEV taking the middle spot at £7,295.
Chris Plumb, motoring expert at HPI said: “Drivers are becoming increasingly comfortable with electric vehicles as the technology improves. Second hand models are becoming more affordable and can offer cost effective motoring. Our picks provide value for money and are likely to hold their value in the years to come.”
Drivers of electric vehicles also benefit from additional savings that include no road tax, no congestion charges and some councils even offer free on-street parking.
