A Type 1 connector, also known as a Type 1 charger or single-phase charging cable, is a five-pin connector that’s usually found in older EVs, first-generation models and some plug-in hybrids (PHEVs). It delivers alternating current (AC), and can only be used with 3kW and 7kW chargers.
Type 1 connectors feature a latch which keeps the charger in place whilst in use, however, it does not feature the locking mechanism found on a Type 2 connector.
