What is trickle EV charging?
Trickle EV charging, also known as level 1 charging, is when you charge your car with a standard three-prong plug which comes with your EV or a lower-grade home wallbox charger. It’s the slowest way of charging your EV, providing only 4-5 miles of range per hour.
Using the three-prong plug is not considered the safest option and should only be done in an emergency when you do not have another charger to hand.
Is trickle charging bad for EV batteries?
Trickle charging, when using a wallbox charger, is considered to be beneficial for EV batteries as it reduces the charging temperatures and risk of battery degradation over time.
