What is the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC)?
The New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) was a test developed in the 1980s which was used to assess vehicle performance, including fuel economy, emissions and electric power consumption of hybrid and fully electric vehicles. The figures from the NEDC were used by car manufacturers to promote their vehicles.
The NEDC was replaced by the Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP) in 2018.
Why was the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) replaced?
The results from the NEDC were repeatedly criticised despite supposedly replicating the typical usage of a car. The Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP) introduced in 2018 aims to provide more accurate data through four different tests.
