Mazda is launching a new ‘2 Hybrid’ as part of its growing electrified range.
But if the Mazda2 Hybrid looks familiar, that’s because it’s essentially a rebadged version of the excellent Toyota Yaris. When it launches in spring 2022 it will be the Japanese firm’s first full-hybrid to be launched, though the firm does already offer mild-hybrid electrical systems in models like the ‘3’ and CX-30.
The new 2’s powertrain is identical to that of the Yaris, combining a 1.5-litre petrol engine with a small electric motor for a combined 114bhp. Mazda says this will allow for a 0-60mph time of 9.5 seconds, along with impressive efficiency – 74.3mpg is claimed, along with CO2 emissions as low as 87g/km.
