Volkswagen’s new Caddy California has gone on sale priced from £30,720.

Based on the new Caddy van, the California is the smallest camper in Volkswagen’s range but brings a host of features designed to make it usable for adventures and longer trips. It slots beneath the brand’s Transporter and Crafter-based campers in the firm’s line-up of campers.

It incorporates a foldable bed complete with a high-quality mattress that is stored in the parcel shelf and opens out above the rear seats. There’s space for five, but the rear bench can be removed entirely to boost space. A standalone ‘tailgate tent’ can also be added as an accessory to create an even larger area at the rear of the car.

There’s also a mini-fridge for storing drinks and snacks, as well as a single-burner cooker with an integrated gas bottle. You also get full air conditioning, LED interior lighting and an interior alarm. All cars also come with an 8.25-inch touchscreen with smartphone integration technology.

Volkswagen has priced the Caddy California from £30,720. This model comes with a 112bhp 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with a six-speed manual gearbox, or a 120bhhp 2.0-litre diesel-powered through a seven-speed DSG automatic.

If you’re after a little more space, then there’s a longer ‘Maxi’ version available – though this commands a slightly higher price tag of £36,954. All versions are available to order now, with first deliveries expected to commence this summer.
