Volkswagen is enhancing the ranges of some of its more popular cars with the addition of a new ‘Active’ trim level, bringing more standard equipment and style to best-selling models like the Polo and Golf.

The appeal of the trim is that it bundles together a range of optional extras at a fraction of the price, while the models come with new ‘Galway’ alloy wheels – varying in size from 15 to 18 inches, depending on car – and getting specific badging and upholstery.

Let’s begin with the Polo supermini, the most affordable Volkswagen to get the new trim, with prices starting from £18,100. Here it builds on the Match grade by bringing a larger touchscreen system with satellite navigation, climate control and carpet mats.

Up next is the T-Cross, the firm’s smallest crossover, with the new Active trim sitting above the SE. Priced from £21,035, it adds features such as heated seats, parking sensors and electrically folding mirrors.

The slightly larger T-Roc crossover is offered in Active trim in both the regular SUV bodystyle and also in the drop-top Cabriolet form, with models priced from £24,035 and £28,060 respectively. On the T-Roc, this new grade brings an electric boot, front fog lights and privacy glass.

Next up is the Golf – Volkswagen’s best-seller in the UK. Sitting above the Life trim, the Active features heated front seats and 30-colour ambient lighting, with models available from £23,860.

The most expensive Volkswagen to get this new Active trim is the mid-size Tiguan SUV, which sees a heated steering wheel, heated front seats, keyless entry and an electric boot offered above the standard Life specification. It’s available from £27,860.

Sarah Cox, head of marketing at Volkswagen UK, said: “The arrival of the attractive new Active trim across six of our car model lines really could not be coming at a better time.

“The Volkswagen UK retailer network is reopening its welcoming showrooms across England and Wales this week and, with what we believe will be significant pent up demand for our cars, the addition of this new special edition trim packed full of value to customers, will, I am certain, only add to the excitement.”
