How many times have you seen a car on TV or the big screen and thought: I really wish that I could drive that car?
From Mr Bean’s MINI to a fantasy machine created in the mind of a writer or cartoonist, there are plenty of great vehicles that have appeared on TV or film that we would love to get behind the wheel of.
Here at Motors.co.uk, we’ve listed the top five fantasy vehicles that we’d love to take for a spin in real life:
1. The DeLorean DMC-12
This beast made the time machine that features in the classic Back to the Future movies. There might be a few glitches here and there with this special plutonium-powered time machine but when Marty McFly and Dr Emmett Brown get that flux capacitor going and reach 88mph, they are able to whizz through the decades. How cool would that be?
2. The Batmobile
Holy fantasy cars, Batman! This is the ultimate car for any crime-fighter. The original Batmobile appeared in the 1939 comic books and was simply a red Sedan. However, over time, the vehicle became more souped-up until the super hero found himself behind the wheel of a gadget-laden, sleek monster of the roads.
3. Wacky Races
Whether you were a fan of Dastardly and Muttley’s rocket-powered Mean Machine, Pat Pending’s Convert-a-Car, or Penelope Pitstop’s Compact Pussycat, it was always fun to watch 11 cars race against one another and get into all sorts of bother. We’d love to host our very own wacky race!
4. The Jetsons
Who wouldn’t want a flying car? It’s the future, of course, and the only way to get around Orbit City. The green machine could whizz the family around in no time – no traffic jams to worry about there! How far off are we from driving our own flying car? (Slovakian company Aeromobil is developing a flying car as we speak, although tests aren’t going as smoothly as it would like.)
5. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
With its number plate GEN11 and its uncanny ability to sprout wings and fly off, this vintage car is rightly the star of the book, film and stage production. Brightly coloured, whimsical, and lots of fun – it would be a very stylish way to get around!
