With the 1 Series, BMW shook up the family hatchback market. Here was a car that offered space for four and a decent sized boot, but appealed to keen drivers with its rear-wheel-drive setup and range of feisty engines.
Now in its second generation, the 1 Series has grown into a more rounded proposition. There’s more space for both people and luggage – though the rear cabin still isn’t the most commodious – and both the interior and exterior styling has been improved for a more upmarket feel. There are also now plenty of posh toys available on the extensive options list.
Does this mean the 1 Series should be on your shortlist for a new family car? Watch our snapshot review above to find out.
