Meet the Evolution, the latest sports car from British manufacturer Ultima.
You may never have heard of it, but the brand holds its head high amongst its more famous performance car rivals. Its previous model, the GT-R, holds the world record for the quickest 0-100-0mph run ever in a car, thanks to its surfeit of power and ultra-light construction.
This latest model is set to build on this impressive legacy. Powered by a range of Chevrolet V8 engines, 15 separate power options are offered, from 350bhp, right up to an eye-watering (not to mention Bugatti Veyron-beating) 1020bhp.
In this most extreme form, the Evolution’s power, allied to a kerb weight of just 950kg, makes for some impressive performance stats. Ultima claims the Evolution will sprint from 0-60mph in 2.3 seconds and reach 100mph in just 4.9 seconds. The car’s top speed is on the exciting side of 240mph. Don’t expect any hi-tech gearboxes or driver aids, though. Pilots will have to do the driving themselves, as the Evolution is fitted solely with a six-speed manual gearbox.
The Evolution will be available in both pre-made and self-build kit form, from £65,995.
"The Ultima has taken its inspiration from the Group C Le Mans race cars and this is something we are very proud of indeed," the company said. "The Ultima shape is something different and permanent compared to the ever-changing crop of latest supercars."
Despite its extreme performance ethos, Ultima has seen fit to bestow the Evolution with luxuries such as sat nav, Bluetooth connectivity and even a reversing camera – just the thing for convincing your other half that this is a genuine replacement for your family car…
