Now summer is in full swing, many of us will be packing up the car and heading off on holidays and day trips but sometimes – this may depend on whether you have children! – the drive there can be just as fun as the destination. There can be nothing better than heading out on the road with the perfect soundtrack to accompany you on your travels. With this in mind, at we’ve compiled our pick of the must-listen road trip tracks from across the decades.

Summer of ’69 – Bryan Adams

This classic Bryan Adams pop rock hit from the summer of 1985 is guaranteed to get you in the mood for summer holidays. It conjures up all sorts of feelings of nostalgia for never ending summers, adventures and young love. Just try not singing along to this one at the top of your voice!

The Boys of Summer – Don Henley

Another track from the 80s that gets us reminiscing about the past is Don Henley’s The Boys of Summer. Sure to get you thinking back to summers gone by and get you geared up for your next adventure.

Born to be Wild – Steppenwolf

Regularly making it into lists of the best songs of all time, this is a true classic and is still as popular today as it was in 1968. Pop this on in the car and thanks to the lyrics ‘Get your motor runnin', head out on the highway, looking for adventure, in whatever comes our way’, you’ll feel like the like the world is your oyster. Even if you are stuck in traffic on the M25!

Don’t Stop Believin’ – Journey

This is a song that has spanned the decades, following its original release in 1981, then re-release in 2009 following its success on TV series Glee. Admit it, we all know the words to the American rock band’s popular hit.

Ride Wit Me – Nelly

It’ too early to judge whether we’ll ever call this a classic and it’s no anthem but Nelly’s Ride Wit Me has a fun summery vibe and it’s good choice for fans of rap. The 2001 release was a top 10 hit in the UK charts.

It’s My Life – Bon Jovi

‘It’s my life, it’s now or never’ are the famous lyrics of this 2000 Bon Jovi hit. It’s a real anthem about seizing the moment and doing what you want. So, what are you waiting for? Jump in the car, get on the road and enjoy the drive!

These are just a selection of some of our top picks, there’s far too many to list all of them here. Share your favourite road trip tracks on our Facebook page.
