Tesla’s recently revealed software update promised the chance of a self-driving system, but if this video’s anything to go by that dream is still a little way off from becoming a reality just yet.
Tesla had made it available for owners of their Model S saloons that the self-drive system was still in development, but this didn’t stop many drivers testing the programme out for themselves.
This video shows the system working initially, but later on launching the Tesla into the path of an oncoming car. Luckily, the driver manages to take hold of the wheel quick enough to avoid a potentially dangerous collision.
It’s lucky that the driver was quick to react – had the Tesla come into contact with the oncoming car the resulting press could have been disastrous for the company and also the development of the software.
Tesla has been quick to stress that the software is very much in development, and should be treated as such.
