Tesla is rolling out a new feature that detects mechanical issues on its cars, and orders the necessary replacement parts to the drivers’ preferred servicing centre.

The new system has seemingly caught the Tesla community by surprise after a user on social media site Reddit posted a photograph of a notice that appeared on their Model 3’s infotainment screen.

The message on-screen read: “An unexpected condition has been detected with the Power Conversion System on your Model 3. A replacement part has been pre-shipped to your preferred Tesla Service Center. Please use your Tesla Mobile App or your Tesla account to schedule a service visit appointment now.”

The existence of the issue detection system was then confirmed by Tesla in a statement to electric car blog Electrek. The statement said: “Our cars can keep tabs on certain components to let you know if they need replacing and order parts ahead of your next service visit.”

Earlier this year, company CEO Elon Musk has previously stated an intention to improve servicing for Tesla customers, and this new system serves as the latest step in reaching that goal.

The Tesla Model S – the firm’s first four-seat car – is available on our used market today.
