When Nissan launched the original Qashqai back in 2007, it couldn’t have predicted how it would have shaken up the family car market. Dubbed a crossover, it bridged the gap between five-door hatchbacks and small SUVs, and appealed to buyers wanting a high driving position but without the high running costs of a binge-drinking 4×4.

Fast forward to 2014 and the family car market is awash with crossovers from a variety of manufacturers looking for a piece of Nissan’s success. In response to this, the Qashqai has been thoroughly reworked for 2014. Aside from greater practicality and sharper styling, there is a revised engine lineup, including Nissan’s 1.5-litre dCi diesel engine, which is capable of 74mpg and emits a road-tax busting 99g/km CO2.
