Suzuki has announced details of the mid-life facelift to its quirky Ignis which includes some cosmetic updates as well as new mild-hybrid powertrain.

Visually, the main styling differences include three new colour options – Caravan Ivory Pearl Metallic, Rush Yellow Metallic and Touch Khaki Pearl Metallic – as well as a new Suzuki SUV-style five-spoke grille and new front and rear bumpers.

Little has changed inside but there are a couple of subtle tweaks including new colours – Lazuli Medium Blue Pearl and Medium Grey Metallic – as well as a new instrument panel which helps to give the Ignis a more premium finish.

It’s available in a choice of three trim levels – SZ3, SZ-T and SZ5. The entry-level SZ3 comes with DAB radio, air-conditioning, Bluetooth connectivity, LED headlights and electric front windows.

Opt for the mid-range SZ-T and this adds a rear-view camera, 16-inch alloy wheels, widened wheel arches and smartphone connectivity.

While the range-topping SZ5 adds climate control, satellite navigation, Dual Camera Brake Support, Lane Departure Warning, Weaving Alert, keyless entry and start and rear electric windows.

The powertrain has been updated too with the addition of Suzuki’s 82bhp 1.2-litre mild-hybrid Dualjet engine which is matched to a CVT gearbox. The updated unit means it’s capable of 0-62mph in 12.7 seconds and a top speed of 103mph.

The self-charging hybrid system incorporates an Integrated Starter Generator which acts as both a generator and starter motor. This helps the engine when pulling away and accelerating using energy recovered through regenerative braking. That means low emissions of 114g/km of CO2 and a fuel economy figure of a claimed 55.7mpg.
