Volkswagen's small hatchback has topped the new-car sales charts across Europe for five months on the go If you’ve just bought a new Volkswagen Golf, you’re in good company. This car has been Europe’s top-selling car for the fifth month on the trot.

According to figures released by research company JATO Dynamics, Volkswagen sold 37,662 Golfs during August, over a third more than the company sold in that month last year. The Ford Fiesta took the number two slot that month by selling 21,648, while the Opel/Vauxhall Corsa sold 19,818 to take third. Volkswagen was also Europe’s top-selling make. It shifted 104,589 vehicles during August, beating Ford with 67,262 into second place. Opel/Vauxhall took third place by selling 56,894 cars.
