The bespoke, K-9 Kodiaq comes equipped with many dog-friendly features, including air-conditioned dog kennels with temperature monitoring. This is built into the rear portion of the SUV.
Forces are able to choose between four engines – two petrols and three diesels – ranging in power from 148bhp to 236bhp. These units can be paired to manual or automatic transmissions, as well as two- or four-wheel-drive.
Henry Williams, head of fleet at Skoda UK, said: “We know police dogs play a pivotal role in an emergency service response; therefore, they need an environment that provides the appropriate level of safety and comfort to get them in and from an emergency.”
The vehicle, which complies with RSPCA and DEFRA requirements, has been made so that the dog can evacuate quickly if needs be, with a front escape hatch with drop-glass built into each kennel.
In addition to the dog-centric kit, the specialist Kodiaq gets all the necessary blue-light requirements such as 360-degree emergency services lighting and an engine Run Lock system.
This function keeps the engine running while the key is removed from the ignition, which enables a useful power supply for lights, radios or safety equipment computers, without the battery going flat.
Williams added: “The versatile Kodiaq police dog vehicle has all of the necessary features to ensure police dogs are well looked after when going about their vital work.”
The K-9 Kodiaq is available to order now.
