The all-new Seat Ateca, which is to launch in the UK in September, has been awarded the highest possible score in the Euro NCAP test programme.

As the first SUV in its history, the Spanish carmaker was venturing into unknown territory with the Ateca, however their efforts paid off when the model demonstrated its high level of safety and won a five star rating.

Not only did it pass with flying colours, but the Ateca did so in a year when Euro NCAP increased the number of tests that vehicles must perform and also set higher standards for its assessments – which included introducing several new sizes and types of crash test dummies.

The smart SUV excelled in the categories of passenger and child safety, as well as in pedestrian protection and driver assistance systems. This will stand it in good stead for its showroom debut in September.

On the model, seven airbags are fitted as standard, including a driver’s knee airbag. Both front and rear seatbelts feature pretensioners and load limiters.

All of the advanced safety features that contributed to the Ateca’s high scoring come as standard on the Barcelona-designed and built model. These include the emergency braking system Front Assist with pedestrian recognition and its lane-keeping system.

Additional safety features on the model include blind spot detection and rear cross traffic alert, 360-degree view with rear camera and tiredness recognition system.

Orders for the ‘First Edition’ Ateca are currently being taken, prior to its showroom launch on September 9.
