Renault has revealed UK pricing for its latest hot hatch, the Megane R.S. Trophy-R, and it is safe to say that the top end of the spec sheet isn’t for the faint of heart.

Just 32 of these cars are to arrive in the UK from a total production run of 500, making this something of a collector’s holy grail before it even arrives in the hands of customers; those customers will be hoping it holds and eventually exceeds its new value, as they will have paid a minimum of £51,140 for the pleasure of ownership.

The Trophy-R features a 296bhp, turbocharged 1.8-litre engine, and everything around it is built bespoke, with the idea of creating the fastest hot hatch ever in collaboration with Renault’s various partners. The fruit of this labour includes an exhaust system from Akrapovic, Brembo brakes, and Ohlins shock absorbers.

For £63,140, the car can be specified with carbon wheels, and at a whopping £72,140, you can have the ‘Nürburgring Record’ edition, commemorating the car’s biggest achievement to date, albeit at a price.

This limited-run Megane has already gained plenty of attention for achieving front-wheel drive lap records at both Spa and the iconic Nürburgring, the latter achievement being the reason for the eye-wateringly expensive special edition.

If you can’t imagine spending £72,000 on a Renault hatchback, fear not; the used Megane range, including sporty R.S. models, can be checked out here on Motors.co.uk.
