Our Motors’ Most Deserving competition has finally come to an end, and we’re excited to be able to announce our deserving winner, Caroline Rutley-Frayne from Tiverton in Devon. Caroline beat more than 100 other nominees to be shortlisted, and was one of our Motors’ Most Deserving finalists.
There were over 3000 votes cast in this competition, with each of the nominees shouting about the competition online and in print to promote their chosen charities. Caroline has won the brilliant prize of £10,000 towards a used car of her choice; she chose a Ford Focus that had been advertised on the Motors.co.uk website by Vosper’s Motor House, a local dealer in Devon. She also won a £2,500 donation to the charity of her choice, Devon Air Ambulance Trust. Her connection to Devon Air Ambulance Trust is a poignant one. In 2008 Caroline and her husband were the victims of a car crash caused by a dangerous driver who hit the motorcycle they were both riding. Although the driver was later convicted, Caroline’s husband sadly died in the crash and Caroline herself suffered injuries that led to the loss of her right arm and leg. Devon Air Ambulance Trust were key in providing emergency transportation for Caroline and her husband at the time of the accident, and since then has been continuously raising funds for this worthwhile cause. As Phil Jones, the commercial director here at Motors.co.uk, says: “ Caroline was selected as the ‘Most Deserving’ for her fantastically positive attitude and clearly enjoys huge support from a wide cross section of her community. The car will make a significant difference to her quality of life so we are delighted to support her and Devon Air Ambulance.” Due to Caroline’s loss of her right arm and leg, her car has been specially adapted in order to help her get around and provide her with much needed transport to get to her volunteering positions at a local hospital and school. The Fundraising Director of Devon Air Ambulance Trust, Caroline Creer, echoed our thoughts when she said that “Caroline’s humility and courage is a true inspiration to us all” – we couldn’t agree more!
The runners-up in this brilliant competition were Jason Odle and Ben Davis, and Fi Star-Stone, all of whom have worked incredibly hard in promoting the competition and their own charities.
