The UK pricings and specifications for the new Abarth 124 Spider have been announced.
Based on the Fiat 124 Spider, which is in turn based on the Mazda MX-5, the Abarth is set to arrive in the UK this summer.
With a starting price of £29,565, the Abarth is powered by a 1.4-litre turbocharged engine, with a manual gearbox. Although small in capacity, that engine produces 170bhp and 250Nm torque. Capable of 0-62mph in 6.8 seconds, it can reach a top speed of 143mph. It also sounds the part, thanks to a Record Monza exhaust that comes fitted as standard.
Although the six-speed manual gearbox comes as standard, customers can also specify an automatic sequential gearbox. This is controlled through steering wheel-mounted paddles.
Five exterior colours are offered with the Abarth, ranging from Turini 1975 White to San Marino 1972 Black.
Inside, there’s a full climate control system, as well as a 7-inch display that incorporates a DAB digital tuner and Bluetooth connectivity. This is all sent through a premium nine-speaker Bose sound system, which incorporates speakers mounted into the car’s headrests. A subwoofer can be specified, too.
Gerry Southerington, Abarth brand manager, said: “The 124 Spider is a new car and a new chapter in the exciting Abarth story.
“It’s what many of our existing customers have been waiting for, and I am confident we will now welcome a new group of owners into the Abarth family. Great looks, stunning performance and unique equipment will set the 124 Spider apart from other roadsters and I am excited about this car’s UK launch.”
