Ford has announced that its new flagship Mustang – the Mach 1 – will be available from £55,185.

The new Mach 1 is designed to be the best-handling Mustang yet, with the model getting a range of tweaks to enhance the way it drives. Key changes include a retuned 5.0-litre V8 engine that kicks out 454bhp, while also being matched to a new six-speed manual gearbox that comes with rev-matching technology for smoother downshifts. A 10-speed automatic transmission is also available.

Elsewhere, the electrically assisted steering has been recalibrated to be more precise, while the suspension has also been rejigged with new dampers, springs and anti-roll bars that aim to deliver greater control and response under more extreme driving conditions.

The Mach 1 also gets a stylish makeover with a series of styling and aerodynamic tweaks included to maximise performance. These include a new front splitter, bespoke rear spoiler and rear diffuser taken from the Shelby GT500.

Order books for the Ford Mustang Mach 1 are now open, with prices starting from £55,185 for the manual, and £57,185 for the automatic.

Buyers can also choose gloss black 19-inch alloy wheels for £900, along with a ‘Mach 1 Appearance Pack’ for £1,400, which brings a special grey body colour with satin black bonnet and orange accents throughout. First deliveries for the Mach 1 are expected in June.
