Nissan has turned its already-capable Navara into something entirely more impressive – a concept designed to operate in some of the world’s most harsh and extreme environments.
The Navara EnGuard Concept is Nissan’s answer to emergency rescue vehicles. Based on a double cab Tekna version of the Nissan Navara, it features a host of vital equipment suitable for emergency and disaster recovery work, including a DJI Phantom 4 drone. This impressive piece of kit can fly at speeds of up to 20 metres per second, to a height of 6,000m, and relays images back to a pop-up HD screen hidden in the load bed wall.
The concept also features a world-first prototype portable battery pack, which is designed to be used in an emergency to power specialist cutting or heavy-lifting equipment – providing a safe and effective alternative to a petrol generator.
Charged via the vehicle’s 2.3-litre 190PS twin-turbo diesel engine, the portable battery pack boasts two input and five output sockets.
To cope with the tough terrain, the EnGuard features a 50mm raised ride height over the standard Navara, while a powerful 360-degree LED lighting rig with emergency blue strobes sit on the roof.
Meanwhile, in the truck’s bed are found two pull-out fibreglass trays. These contain emergency equipment including two-way radios, ropes, an axe, an oxygen tank and resuscitation kit, plus life jackets and buoyancy aids.
