For Nissan, the Qashqai family crossover has been a huge success stealing sales from the traditional hatchback segment. Now, though, Nissan has returned to the Ford Focus/Volkswagen Golf class with an all new car badged, Pulsar.

In a competitive market the Nissan has a few aces up its sleeve, largely being the class-leading interior space, above average refinement and a host of driver safety aids making it a genuine contender.

There are two engines available from launch, a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol and a 1.5 litre turbo diesel.

Although the Pulsar is targeting the Ford Focus/Mazda 3 market, it’s not set up to be as fun to drive, instead its more geared around a relaxing drive.
