Volkswagen has won various awards at the Frankfurt Motor Show, including ones for design and innovation – the most prestigious being “most innovative brand” at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show.

It was chosen by a jury for the Plus X award, with VW’s head of design Klaus Bischoff collecting the gong.

This particular award is given to brands whose products have a “qualitative and innovative edge”, which it felt VW had displayed prominently throughout Frankfurt.

This wasn’t the only accolade collected, however, with the brand’s new Arteon saloon also winning a top award – claiming top rank for the “Best of Best” award.

It also claimed the German Design Council’s award for “Saloon of the Year 2017”.

The jury explained why they chose the Arteon, saying: “In the Arteon, the designers from Wolfsburg have embodied the shape of the future in a series production vehicle with exceptional aplomb.

“They have combined the design elements of a traditional sports car with the elegance and space of a fastback while at the same time managing to incorporate many of the concept car’s innovative stylistic features and design details into the series production vehicle.”

VW also scooped up “Automotive Concept Vehicle of the Year 2017” for its I.D Buzz camper van. It was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor show as an all-electric retro microbus that will officially be released in 2022.

The all-new Atlas also took top honours as “SUV of the Year 2017”. Meanwhile, the Golf hatchback won “Compact Passenger Car of the Year 2017.”
