Motorists were left annoyed after being told London’s Tower Bridge was closed for essential maintenance, only to find filming for the latest Transformers blockbuster taking place on it.
Signs announcing the bridge’s closure from October 1 until December 30 were put up, with drivers warned to expect delays. However, a large film crew and a number of cars were visible on the bridge yesterday, filming what appeared to be a chase scene.
Frustrated drivers vented their anger on Twitter, with one user commenting: "If Tower Bridge is closed for maintenance why are they filming Transformers on it?
Transport for London, which organised the closure, claimed the City of London Corporation authorised the filming to take place.
A City of London spokesperson said: “Today’s filming has no impact on the schedule of work planned for the Tower Bridge closure.
"The filming is taking advantage of the traffic closure in place as preparatory works take place on the north side of the bridge.”
