Skoda has lifted the lid on the all-new version of its Octavia hatchback and estate.

The fourth iteration of the popular model features a refreshed, yet familiar design that takes styling cues from other new Skodas – notably the Scala.

The car ditches the previous model’s split headlight design, replacing it with redesigned units with LED tech as standard. It also gets a lower roofline than before, giving it a more ‘coupe-like’ appearance.

In terms of powertrains, the Octavia is set to receive mild hybrid, in addition to full plug-in hybrid, tech – the latter being a first for the Octavia.

Bernhard Maier, chief executive of Skoda Auto, said: “For Skoda, the Octavia is of immense importance. That’s why we’ve completely redeveloped this car. The outcome is the best Octavia of all time – it is even more spacious, practical and even safer than ever before.”

The Octavia hatch is now 19mm longer than the outgoing model and 22mm longer than the old estate – width has also been increased by 15mm for both.

The result is a boot that’s 30 litres bigger in estate form and 10 more in hatch form, while passenger room has also been improved.

Speaking of the interior, the dashboard features a free-standing touchscreen display that measures 8.25 or 10 inches. As well as this, the car gets optional ‘Ergo’ seats that are said to be very back friendly.

Maier added: “By unveiling its latest generation just in time for its 60th anniversary, we have taken a major step forward. The Octavia has significantly contributed to the positive development of the company and the brand.

“I am very confident that the new generation will play its part in maintaining this positive development.”
