Built in tiny numbers, it's rare to see a McLaren road car come up for sale in the classifieds. Even less of an occurrence is this: a mint GT3 racer, eligible for competition straight away, on sale at Knaresborough dealership Lawton Brook.
Built as part of a production run numbering just 25 examples, this McLaren MP4-12C GT3 is listed on Motors.co.uk sporting a price-tag of £299,000 plus VAT. Eye-watering yes, but quite reasonable for such a specialised competition machine, particularly an MP4-12C, which boasts an enviable reputation for mechanical reliability and absolute engineering precision. And unlike the other 24 built, this car has never been put through its paces on track, so owners can be assured of a car that's been free of abuse at the hands of wealthy privateer racers.
Largely based on the MP4-12C road car, the GT3 model carries over its twin-turbocharged 3.8-litre V8 engine, mated to a race biased six-speed sequential gearbox. It even comes with a steering wheel modelled on the one used by (then) McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton in his F1 car.
Despite the additional aerodynamic package, used to force the car to the floor in fast corners, the GT3 comes in 80kg lighter than its road-legal sister. Of course, you could modify the GT3 for use on the road, but dealer Lawton Brook estimates this would cost around £40,000 on top of the list price.
Interested? You had better be quick, Lawton Brook is currently fielding enquiries from across the globe.
