Nissan launch Micra car-sharing campaign

All New Nissan Micra

Nissan is to launch its own innovative car-sharing scheme in Paris.

The scheme, which will be known as the Nissan Intelligent Get & Go Micra service is expected to be launched before the end of this year, with a full fleet of vehicles becoming available in April 2017.

It will use social media to match consumers with one another and promises to form next-generation car sharing communities.

Users will part-own a brand new Nissan Micra, and pay accordingly to how much they use it. So, whoever uses the car most often will pay more than a driver who only needs the vehicle occasionally.

The amount they pay will be determined by an algorithm, which will also use social profiling and geo-localisation technology to match the compatible owners.

Bespoke monthly invoices will be sent to the drivers and will include both insurance and servicing of the car, making the part-ownership scheme reassuringly simple.

One restriction which will be seen in the service, is that drivers will be restricted to 15,000km (9,321 miles) a year. However, given that this scheme is aimed at drivers who don’t need a car often, this is unlikely to be an issue.

Revealing the service at the Web Summit in Lisbon, Portugal, Nissan Chairman and CEO Ghosn commented: “We are moving toward a future where car usage may be more flexible, social and shared.

“At Nissan, we’re pioneering new ways to allow drivers to enjoy the freedom and financial benefits of shared car ownership.

“And there is no better vehicle to launch this program than the all-new Micra, which embodies the vision of Nissan Intelligent Mobility.”
